Grade question by question

  1. Open the Grade › Open questions tab. The list shows the questions to grade, the number of Graded answers and the assigned Grader.

  2. Click a question: all participants’ answers appear on the same page, without their names. The Graded and To grade filters let you pick up where you left off.

  3. For each answer, click a grade (0, 0.25, 0.5…) or adjust it with − and +.

  4. Optional: click Leave feedback to write a comment to the participant.

  5. See copy opens the participant’s complete submission.

To split the grading among colleagues, see Assign graders

Grade submission by submission

In the Results tab, click a participant to open their submission and grade their answers one by one.

Grade with AI

For Open and Code questions, the AI can write feedback and suggest a grade.

  1. Prepare the question in the editor: expand Grading rubric and fill in grading criteria and an Exemplary answer. The AI relies on them; without criteria, it grades directly on the question’s grading scheme. See Open Question

  2. In Grade › Open questions, open the question and click Generate Feedbacks: All (replaces existing feedback) or Only missing (only answers without feedback). For a single answer, click the ✨ icon to the right of Leave feedback.

  3. Review each suggestion: you can edit the text, delete it or Approve it. The suggested grade appears as Grade suggestion; you decide the final grade.

  • The feedback is written in the language of the participant’s answer (or of the statement if the answer is very short), in a formal tone.

  • The criteria and the exemplary answer are never shown to the participant.

  • The participant sees the feedback on their graded submission, if you give them access. Feedback that has been generated but not yet approved is also shown to them, with the “AI generated” label: review the feedback before making submissions visible. See Share results with participants

💡 Grading with AI is included starting with the Pro plan.

Changing a grade or grading scheme after the fact

  • To change the grade of an answer, go back to the question in Grade or to the submission, and edit the grade.

  • To change a question’s points, neutralize a question or fix a correct MCQ answer after the exam, see Correct the exam subject & grades

To grade the whole exam by assessment criteria, see Set up criteria-based assessment mode
